Full Version: scrolling issues with PDF in ICA Connection

Im having serious issues reagarding the scrolling speed within a ICA Connection when viewing a pdf file that has pictures embedded.
The scrolling is deal breaking slow.
Ive observed it beeing even slower when I use higher resolutions. on 1080p its nothing short of unusable.
But even on 1024 its still too slow.

I have other applications, such as a GIS Viewer (aerial images) that works also slower but is still ok.
PDFs with just text are also ok.

Ive tried RPi-TC v3 and v5, no difference.
i allready overclocked the Pi to 1000, gpu_mem 128 and gpu_freq 333

Anyone else having similar issues?

regards, sascha
Hi sloth,

this sounds like an Citrix issue not an RPiTC.
In PDFs there could be pictures with a very high resolution.
So when you scroll down the PDF the whole picture is transferred many times.
Even the Raspberry needs to do a lot to decrypt and decompress the big amount of data.

According to which Citrix Version you are using there a several options (like compression) that you might want to enable.
Have a look at this article:

hello DaWast.
Thanks for your reply.

Im also connecting to that very same farm with other clients, like a range of Fijitsu Thin Clients (from Futro S400 up to S700) and Windows Desktop PCs.
The older Thin Client models seem to be prone to the same issue but somewhat less extreme. I definately think it has something to do with raw power of client hardware, especialy on higher resolutions. On a i5 amchine with windeows 7 the issue is non existing.
I played a bit with the disk caching option of the citrix reciever (enabling it and set it to 8000), which seems to help a bit.
I will report again if I have found more to share.
To improve the Citrix performance on low profile hardware try this:
- Change the colour dept of published citrix desktop from max/automatic to 16bit
- In /opt/Citrix/ICAClient/config/All_Regions change from fontsmoothingtype=* to fontsmoothingtype=3
- set the disk cache working folder on /tmp (this is a tmpfs fs) 8000 is good.
