Raspberry Pi 2 Model B OUT! - admin - 02-02-2015

Whats new on the RPi 2 board:

A 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU (~6x performance)
1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (2x memory)
Complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1

Because it has an ARMv7 processor, it can run the full range of ARM GNU/Linux distributions, including Snappy Ubuntu Core, as well as Microsoft Windows 10. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers.

Great news, we will see soon the VMWare Horizon Client with PCoIP on RaspberryPi... Smile

That's nice, CPU is very limited actually on the Raspberry Pi. I hope that's gonna be better!

RE: Raspberry Pi 2 Model B OUT! - Angus - 03-02-2015

Does this mean that PCoIP is now possible?

Thanks

Angus

Yes with the new board, yes Smile

Thanks for the update admin.

Do you think this would improve performance using rdesktop or FreeRDP from the Pi? Or is performance limited still via the 10/100 NIC on the Pi?

I'll probably buy one of this, that's very interesting for 35$.

i'll expect a good improvement of performance due the quad core cpu (one cpu for X and one for rdesktop/freerdp process)... Also, FreeRDP (like VMWare Horizon) have some code specific NEON optimization (simply speaking: NEON reduce the number of instruction needed to achieve a task. So reducing instruction count will reduce the number of clocks used to perform the same task. So more speed Smile ). But standard Ubuntu/Debian OS packages arent builded with NEON support Sad
Fortunately FreeRDP can be easily rebuilded with NEON optimized codecs (-DWITH_NEON=ON).

Thanks Admin...Will the next version of rpitc have the new optimized codecs built into FreeRDP? Smile Or is the -DWITH NEON=ON an option we use within the instruction to use FreeRDP when we connect?
