Need help installing a VNC client / DNS problems cant use apt-get
Hello,

I absolutely need a vnc client. Not sure how it got left out being so popular but thats not the matter.

Im trying to install a VNC package like xtighvncviewer for example and I cant get anywere with apt-get

sudo apt-get update shows these errors:

Err http://ftp.de.debian.org sid InRelease
Err http://armv6j.armtc.net sid InRelease
Err http://ftp.de.debian.org sid Release.gpg
Temporary failure resolving 'ftp.de.debian.org'
Err http://armv6j.armtc.net sid Release.gpg
Temporary failure resolving 'armv6j.armtc.net'

And when trying to install xtightvncviewer I get this:

The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
ttf-dejavu-core
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove it.

E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?

Does anyone have an idea how to get this thing working? I doesnt need to be that vnc viewer package as long as it can be started from command line it will do.

Ok so I found out that my RPI-TC can ping 4.2.2.1 which is a well known ip on the internet.

But I seem to have issues with DNS resolution. I cant ping google.com for example.

I tried to go in resolv.conf to manually configure some servers but I couldn't overwrite the file.

When I try to do a "cat /etc/resolv.conf" I get Input/output error

RE: APT-GET is not working
bump, anyone? vnc client on rpi-tc?

Changed the title to better reflect what im trying to accomplish

Did some extra troubleshooting, seems like im having DNS resolution issues on the PI...

Cant ping any domain names but i can ping ips allright.

Tried to edit resolv.conf but the file is read only, cant even do a cat on it i get:
cat: resolv.conf: Input/output error

If i cat resolv.conf.tmp it contains the proper dns config from our dhcp.
Not sure what is going on here.

Any ideas?

RE: Need help installing a VNC client / DNS problems cant use apt-get
Seems like I fixed the DNS issues. I re flashed the SD card and its working. What is strange is that this was a clean install, only thing I did was modify the auto start file.

Now lets see if I can get a vnc client on there...

Ok apt-get install xtightvncviewer worked and its all working fine now except for the awful video performances.

Think I read this had to do with some video acceleration or something. Guess will have to wait for the Rpi-TC team to work their magic.

What i did to get vnc working is...

Boot in admin mode and open the top file on the desktop i think its called admin something (could be wrong i dont have the machine in front of me)

Down the bottom of that file you will see vncserver take out the hash at the front and reboot and you will have vnc access.

I also googled how to change the password and it was pretty easy to do (im not a linux man)

Try that.. I will be in front of my pi on monday and i can tell you exactly if you get stuck.
